Starting West Indian Lemongrass from Seed

Fill a seed tray with moist, well-drained seed-starting mix. Sow seeds on the surface or cover them very lightly, up to about 1/4 inch deep. Mist gently, then cover the tray with a clear dome or plastic wrap to hold warmth and humidity.

Keep the mix moist but not waterlogged. The detailed supplier guide gives a germination estimate of about 1–3 weeks at 70–80°F. Another product section lists different germination estimates, so timing can vary with temperature, moisture, and seed-lot condition.

Remove the cover after seedlings emerge and provide bright light. Gradually acclimate seedlings before transplanting outdoors.

Growing Care

Move plants outdoors after frost danger has passed and warm conditions have arrived. Grow in full sun and moist, well-drained soil. Space plants about 24–36 inches apart. Lemongrass is frost-sensitive; bring container plants indoors before cold weather.

Harvesting

The supplier lists about 90–100 days to maturity. Harvest established stalks as needed for cooking. The tender inner stalk base is used in many dishes; tough outer layers are removed.

Actual germination, growth, and harvest timing depend on climate, soil, and care. Seeds are intended for planting.
