Seed Starting Tips

For best germination, soak seeds in warm water around 60–70°C for 8–12 hours before sowing. After soaking, keep the seeds warm and moist. Bitter melon seeds have a hard seed coat, so warmth and steady moisture are very important.

Start seeds indoors 3–4 weeks before the last frost, or direct sow outdoors after all danger of frost has passed and the soil is warm. Avoid cold, wet soil because it can slow germination or cause seeds to rot.

Care Tips

Provide a strong trellis or support for healthier vines, better airflow, and straighter fruit growth. Keep soil consistently moist during germination, flowering, and fruiting. Feed lightly with compost or balanced vegetable fertilizer, but avoid too much nitrogen, which can produce excess leaves and fewer fruits.

Protect young plants from cold nights, beetles, slugs, birds, and sudden weather changes.

Harvesting

Harvest fruits while they are still young, firm, and creamy white. For best flavor and texture, pick before the fruits become overly mature. Regular harvesting encourages the vine to continue producing.

Important Note

Germination and growth results may vary depending on temperature, moisture, soil, sunlight, and growing conditions. Bitter melon is a warm-season crop and needs steady warmth for best results.
